Beginning in 1984, Dr. Modi has been promoting Jainism as a philosophy of life. His efforts to inculcate the Jain way of living a healthy life is clearly visible across the USA.

The purpose of all the endowments, professorships, lectureships and scholarships that he, his family and friends have started/undertaken is to attract, recognize and retain scholars who are acknowledged by their peers as being eminent in their fields. The prestigious academic appointments at various US universities of prestige promote teaching and researching Jain studies.

GUIDELINES
Principle:

With this endowment, the donors aim to promote the values of Jainism and the Jain way of life. It will nurture undergraduate and graduate students toward PhD in Jainism to understand it better and find more value.
Objectives:

  • To create more awareness of Ahimsa, Asteya, Anektavad and Aparigraha in the mainstream society
  • To encourage world-renowned citizens and professionals to understand the philosophy of Jainism
  • To promote boundless discovery, attracting and retaining motivation, upholding cultural values and tradition
Qualifications

 

  • LIST IF APPLICABLE

The Chair will have enough academic freedom to pursue their research work, teaching and other innovative programs.

 Process for choosing: 

  • May be nominated by institutions/departments/centres from within the center.  
  • If self-nominated, the applicant must submit a statement of purpose indicating a clear vision.
  • Confidential evaluations of the work of the nominee/applicant will be sought from two or more external experts who are well known in the field. 
  • The application along with the evaluations of the work of the candidate by experts will be placed before a selection committee headed by the Academic Institution.
  • The tenure of a professorship is typically 5 years and can be renewed if so recommended by the review committee.  
  • The selection committee will also fix the quantum of financial incentive by the university foundation to be paid to the Chair.
Expectations:

  • Effectively teach, inspire and motivate undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Lead their field, mentor junior faculty and students, build programs and strategically lead their department and college.
  • To be good trustees of the endowment, adhering to the intentions of the donor who established it and using discretionary funds appropriately and effectively.
  • To level up and maintain a high quality of productivity in publicized research and/or creative professional activity, bringing national and international distinction to the college and to themselves.
Evaluation/Review:

 

  • A comprehensive periodic assessment will be held every year, which will seek a report on their discretion of usage of endowment funding.
  • Every periodic analysis, publications and/or public presentations will be evaluated.
